    Earth Day Celebration In Paramus

Earth Day 2009 Arriving early, I was met by Stanley Fox who made sure that I received a program. Next on the list of familiar faces were fellow Rotarian Mukesh Malkan, Donald & Thelma Springer, Ed Onorato who introduced me to Chairman Jorge Quintana, Don Adler, Rosa Rositta, Jay Sexton and Donna Perkosky. I missed Jean Payoczkowski who had alerted me to the celebration. I understand that Jean had taken ill.

The visitors started to pour in after the noon opening soaking up the free iced coffee offered by Starbucks, the tote bags offered by Fairway Markets, the yoyo’s, lollipops and disks offered by TD Bank, pens, pencils and brochures galore.

The first vendor participant I met was Gerald Anthony of Anthony Brothers who builds green energy houses and does alterations. Trevor Alberine from TD Bank was enjoying the onrush of youngsters who practically cleaned out his toy giveaways. Scott Gunther of Wild Birds Unlimited on Rte 17 S was surrounded by bird lovers.

While I was in front of the Fairway Table, Bud Cuttito approached me asking for help. Nud is the owner of the NJ Hawks, a new football team and he wants to get the word out. For those interested, access njhawks.com for more information.

Needless to say, the Environmental Commission was out in full force making sure that everyone was happy. They were easily identifiable by their green shirts. They do deserve praise for a well organized Earth Day that proved out to be the largest attendance ever, despite the 90 degree heat.
